Bright field illumination is the most basic and common form of lighting for microscopes with a highly directional and intense light source. It has been widely used for observation modes in optical microscopy since its invention for the past 300 years ago.
Basically, when we talk about bright field microscopy we are talking about the technique in using the bright field microscopes. This type of equipment relies entirely upon the light from the lamp source gathered by the substage condenser and shaped into a cone whose apex is focused at the plane of the specimen. These specimens can be viewed because this device is capable of changing the speed and the path of the light passing through the them. By rapidly changing the light passing through the path it will able to interfere with each other which produce contrast, and therefore you are able to view a specimen. So in other words, brightfield microscopy can only be achieved when illumination like sunlight or halogen light is altered both before and hitting the sample.
